Are you not here to please me?

Relationships….. if you’re in one, you’re telling those who are not to enjoy their singleness; and if you’re single, you’re looking at those who are in a relationship wondering what it would be like to be in one! Personally, I have come to a place where I am content with my singleness because whilst waiting for the right person, it’s given me the opportunity to prepare myself in many ways for whoever he is. There is beauty in patience 🙂

This is why I love a good spa break! Not only is it a chance to unwind & reflect, but also a chance to be inspired and learn. Whilst nibbling away at our tapas (yum, yum!), my very good friend was offering some enlightenment on some valuable lessons she’s learnt whilst being married. For some reason, we grow up thinking that life is all about us don’t we! And for those who are fortunate enough to have us in their lives, they should do all they can to please us, right…? Well, wrong according to my friend & I happen to agree with her.

You see, with the latter thinking, we see all sorts of problems in the world with this drive for personal gratification….  whether it be in the form of one-night stands, pornography, strip clubs, adultery etc So, one must ask, is there something warped in our thinking when it comes to relationships & doing it well? What if a successful relationship is birthed out of striving to put the other person first over ourselves? What if pleasing the other person took precedent over wanting to be pleased…?

Love this quote!

Love this quote!

I can only hope that when my time comes to walk down the aisle, that my heart and mind will be in the right place to begin the challenging, yet rewarding journey of marriage. It can be done and done well 🙂

  1. You are so right! As moms we often do without even the barest of comforts to give it all to our kids and family, and we suffer and get sick and run down. It’s nice to hear someone remind us how important it is to take care of us!

    • Thanks for your comment. I agree with what you’re saying for sure; it’s important to have a balance between taking care of others & ourselves- hence my spa break! But I also think the biggest blessing comes from giving our best to our loved ones (be it our time, kind words, loving actions etc), especially when it comes to marriage. As a single woman, it’s something I’ve observed and heard-which I hope came across in my post 🙂
